You compete with a partner.  Each week, your team will have to complete 250 minutes of cardio and whatever task you are given.  It could be answer a nutrition question, do an extra set of your weight program or even get caught doing something "Amazing" for someone else.  Prizes will be won, and fun will be had by all.  Details are at the desk at the fitness Center. &lt;br /&gt;Holiday are upon us, so this is a great way to learn to be aware of what you are doing and what you are putting in your mouth to change your weight and improve your health over the next few months. I am so sorry!  We've extremely busy this year and I'm finally coming up for air.  Is it hot or what.  Well, I have a confession.....I have succumb to the demands of the market.  Many of you who know me, know that I am anti-processed and against all foods with chemicals, additive, bleached, enriched or modified.  Don't even offer me something in pill form. We are also becoming "real" with ourselves and learning to avoid road blocks to weight loss.  There's two more weeks to go and then we'll reveal our winners.  We have lost over 60 pounds since January as a club and we are really moving.  Great job to everyone!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Upcoming Events:  We are adding a pilates mat class to our morning schedule.  It will be Monday and Thursday mornings at 10:30. We've had tons of new faces running around and it's been great to get to know them.  Our weight loss program is in it's 3rd week.  Everyone is losing....I think my team is winning.  It's not too late to get on a team and learn to be healthy and shed some holiday poundage. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So far we have incorporated 3 simple habits into our lives....eat a "Queen" size breakfast, eat 7-11 fruits and vegetables and this week is 64 ounces of water.  We are also trying to be active and exercise at least 4 days per week burning an accumulation of 1500-2000 calories per week.  Awesome job everyone!!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;UPCOMING EVENTS!!!&lt;br /&gt;February 26th at 6:30-  "What not to wear"  Meet our professional Stylist for the latest in spring fashion and to learn how to look your best in your clothes.  A sign up is required for this event at the front desk.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2nd Annual Cheerleading Conditioning Clinic-  is scheduled for March 2-April 9.  LSU cheerleaders will be our guest coaches.  Come and get ready for try-outs.  90% of those attending last year made the squad.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4th Annual Free Month March-  Non-members come and try us for a month free.  Just pay the assessment fee.  It's a time to try us and not be committed.  If you are a member elsewhere, here's an opportunity for a change of scenery without leaving your gym. Losing weight, getting in shape, eating better....The enthusiasm of working out usually goes away by mid February.  Not this year at Fitness Design.  In 2009 our goal is retention and learning to love working out.  Ok, so I'll settle for sort of enjoy it.  We are starting "Decrease your Assets by Tax Season"  It's a ten week program geared toward eating better, exercising regularly and decreasing whatever it is that's weighing you down. (weight, blood pressure, stress, etc)  Of course, it is a competition.  We'll track your successes on the "DOW" (Decreasing Your Weight) chart.  Your "Accountant" (instructor) will keep you on the straight and narrow, informing you of any changes in the "economy" (the program).  One team will get a refund on April 15th. (end of competition).  The best part about it is if you finish the ten week program you would have exercised for 1/4 of the year.  How awesome is that?  Sign up now at the front desk.  It's a $2 charge to play the market.   The winners will split the money collected. I know that it was a contest, but you all won.    We've had more people exercising during the holidays this year than any other.  I hope that you all feel "Amazing"!!!  You worked out, helped two needy families in our area, provided band-aids for St. Jude, did something awesome for your partner, learned some nutrition facts, received a  Get Fit session and learned a few new routines to prevent you from getting bored...all in 7 weeks.  We will announce the winners this week!!!!  It may help out your team to come and work out 3 of the 5 days that we are open this week.  Our schedule is as followed.  Wednesday, New Years Eve, 5:00 am - 1:00.  Get Fit as usual, and fitness fusion is from 9:15-10:30 with Amanda.  Closed Christmas Day, Open Friday and Saturday from 8:00-1:00 with no classes or Get Fit on Friday and fitness fusion on Saturday from 9:00-10:15 with Cinda.  Everyone have a safe christmas.  Remember the reason!!! Everyone has done a great job.  I think that we will have provided a nice christmas for two families in our area.  This week's job is to burn 2300 calories between the two of you, one Yoga or pilates class (see group schedule for times) and then each team will have either an exercise task or a nutrition question around the gym.  You will also have to buy 7-11 different types of fruits and vegetables and bring us a copy of your receipt.  (this is a team effort!!)  It will be up to you to eat them all during the week.  An additional task is to do something "Amazing" for your partner who put up with you for the last 6 weeks.  It doesn't have to be much....a card, candle, car,  slap on the backside....whatever strikes your fancy.  Everyone gets credit for working out on Thursday...the snowday.  You can burn some serious calories keeping your body warm, building snowwomen and having snow ball fights.  I know that we were all out burning, right??  Check back next week to see who are final "Amazing" race winners are.  Team 19 is this weeks prize winner.  You will have a little something at the desk on Tuesday.  Stop by and pick it up. This week will be a little tougher, but it's now that people tend to fall off with the rush of holiday shopping.  We have a number of things we need to get done.  First, there is a pink card at the front desk for each of you.  You have until the end of the week to complete it.  (trust me, we'll take your word that you completed this one!!)  This job will only make you even more "Amazing".  Each team will also have a task envelope somewhere in the gym.  If you get the exercise envelope, then only one of you will have to complete the task.  The nutrition question is a team effort.  Every team will also have to complete 2200 calories burned per team and you have to spread it out over 3 different workout days at the minimum.  You will also have to fit in another group class.  I will post your tasks on the board at the fitness center since it's a little more this time.  Don't forget about your assignment from last week.  We need all gifts by Friday evening.  Keep in mind that we are closed on Saturday for the Christmas parade, so you will only have 5 days to complete your work.   Yall are really doing awesome.  I think we have more retention this time than any other program that we've done.  SUPER!!!!!&lt;br /&gt;Also, team 5 is our "amazing" winner.  We have a special little something for you at the desk!!!&lt;br /&gt;One last thing....I know many of you haven't finished some of your tasks and feel like you are out of the competition.  Some of my wonderful staff suggested that if you would like to make up a task, then you can bring some beads for them to throw at the parade.  You bring them in and then we'll throw them back to you on Saturday.  Who could pass up that deal, uh!!!&lt;br /&gt;Work hard. We need these gifts back by next Friday (12/12).  Your exercise task is 2000 calories burned and one group exercise class per team. We are about to do something "Amazing" for two families in Zachary. We have adopted two families with lots of kids for Christmas. I have divided each child up amongst the teams. I've posted them next to the race chart. This is part of Week 5, but I know that a lot of you will be out and about shopping on Friday, so in case you see a good deal you can pick it up for your child. Each TEAM either has toys, clothes or shoes to purchase for your child. The gift needs to be wrapped, labeled with the child's name and back at the fitness center by Friday, December 12. We will deliver the gifts on Sunday, December 14 is anyone wants to participate. We are also hosting a food drive for the families. The families are related, live together and have requested that. So if you want to also contribute to that, you can. The food drive is also open to members who aren't participating in the Amazing Race. The staff at Fitness Design is collecting money for the kids to have uniforms. That is also an option if anyone is interested. On another note, I heard today from a member that on average we consume about 4000 extra calories on thanksgiving day. Doesn't that sound fun? That's a pound of fat plus some. Who wants seconds now??? Correct me if I'm wrong, but "whining" wasn't part of last weeks requirements.  Ha Ha !  Whining in a gym is flattery.  I know that it's getting harder, but you are teams. If you can't make something, make sure your partner can. Some people didn't look at the blog until Tuesday, so they missed the bulk of the work. (I also goofed on one of the times, I'm sorry) I had thought about letting people do other classes, but it wasn't fair to those who gave something up and came to the right class.  . So to be fair, and since it's a short week. If you didn't go to a Fitness Fusion class last week, then someone from your team has to do it this week. Your options are Monday 9:15 AM, Monday 5:30 PM or Wed 5:15 AM.&lt;br /&gt;This week you will also have to do 100 minutes of cardio and 30 have to be on Thursday. That's 200 per team.   One person can do all 200 or share the journey.  I changed it to minutes this week because many of you will be out of town, so minutes instead of calories are trackable. You also may not eat as much if you know that you have to walk, run or crawl for 30 minutes.&lt;br /&gt;Team work: The teams below will have ONE person show up for a GET FIT session Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. See our website for times (personal training page) 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;These teams will have a question somewhere in the gym that will need to be answered before the end of the week. 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16, 17, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There were a few teams who didn't attend a GET FIT session last week that were supposed to. In order to make that up, you will have a chore to complete at the end of the contest.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;TEAM 6 won a special prize for being the first team to finish all of last weeks tasks. Isn't it "Amazing"?  (ha, ha!) The weeks will be getting tougher! !!! &lt;br /&gt;The following teams will have an appointment to make.  One of you from teams, 1, 5, 9, 13, 17, 21, 25, and 27 will need to show up during a Get Fit time.  Be prepared to work out and sweat.  View the personal training page of our website for times.  Look for Laura , Carly or Cheryl.  If you already do Get Fit, then your partner has to show up.&lt;br /&gt;Everyone else, including these teams will have to complete 300 calories during a cardio session, 3 times during the week and one of you has to go a Fitness Fusion Class.  (Mon- 9:15 AM, Mon-6:15 PM or Wed am- 5:15 AM)  As a reminder, you get 400 calories per group aerobic class, 200 for yoga or pilates, 200 for weights.  ( I changed my mind on the weights because people were skipping them)&lt;br /&gt;Teams 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, 15, 18, 19, 22, 23, 28 will have an envelope in the gym.  Please answer the question and bring back to the desk. &lt;br /&gt;Great job on the band-aids. This week we are doing something "Amazing" for the children on the Cancer unit at Our Lady of the Lake.  (which is a St. Jude affiliate)  Each team is to bring a box of fun band-aids for the children.  With the economy like it is, luxury items are no longer available.  It's plain bandaids and no snacks.  Joan is one of our instructors and she works with these children everyday.  A bright colored band-aid goes a long way.  So....band-aids it is.  Place them in the bin at the desk.&lt;br /&gt;Your exercise chore is for each of you to complete 3 days of any type of cardiovascular exercise, burning 250 each day AND one of you has to complete a group exercise class.  If you fell short last week, then you can catch up by doing 2 group exercise classes this week. &lt;br /&gt;In short, 1500 calories on the cardiovascular equipment, 400 for a group class, and a box of band-aids.  If you are an ODD numbered team, you will have an additional chore.  Look for your envelope around the gym.  Have fun!!!!! It was a lot of fun. I think we'll do it again sometime. We have 12 teams signed up for the AMAZING RACE. It starts November 3... get ready!!! It'll be fun.&lt;br /&gt;Our third annual "Have yourself a Healthy Little Christmas" is in a few weeks. It's November 7th. What a great time to come and shop and buy your teacher gifts. We have many talented ladies in our club and many who sell gifts from a variety of companies. They will have their booths set up and ready to make this years christmas a little easier. STOP BY and BUY!! You can come and shop and make a list for your husband. He can also buy a gift certificate directly from our website and print it out for you at home. HOW CONVENIENT?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Your friends who aren't members yet, can work out until January 1st for $100. It's a great opportunity to work out for a few months without a contract.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Don't forget to vote everyone!!! Continue to pray that God does not lift his hand from us. That same woman is OBESE at 174 pounds. An interesting prediction from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health recently published an article on the obesity epidemic. This year, 28% of Americans are considered overweight, while 34% are considered OBESE. In year 2030, 37% of Americans will be considered overweight, with 53% being OBESE. That's over half of the US being too large!! That also means that over half of us will be predisposed to diabetes, heart disease, High Blood Pressure and joint pain from carrying extra weight. DO WE NEED ANOTHER REASON TO START DIETING AND EXERCISING RIGHT NOW!!!!, THIS MINUTE!!!! If you can't commit to doing something for weight loss, then lets do something to stop weight gain and prevent the onset of life threatening diseases. In 2030, our children will be adults. They will be part of that statistic. They are watching our habits. (eating and moving). Your options are:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Spin Class - 45 mins. on the bike with fun music&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Circuit Class - a 45 min. class made of 12 - 15 stations that alternate between strength and cardio. Each participant will spend one minute at each station and then rotate to the next. It's a lot of fun, and the time passes very quickly since you do something different every minute.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;So, leave a comment to this post and let us know what you'd like to do.
